Moderate

La Cova Fumada
The potato bomba, served with a fiery chilli sauce. Especially tasty are the chickpeas with morcilla sausage, roast artichokes and the marinated sardines. Its huge following of lunching workers means its hard to get a table after 1pm.

Arola
Sergi Arola is one of the rising young stars of Spain's culinary world. He hails from Catalunya, but this is his first restaurant in Barcelona (his other, La Broche, is in Madrid) and the setting is no less than the luxury Hotel Arts in the Olympic Village. What Arola aims to do amid a quirky, pop-art decor in purple and lime green, is to give the pica-pica (nibbles) modern makeover.

Il Giardinetto
The restaurant is split into two levels, and the space is dominated by columns with painted branch motifs, the walls are covered with naive foliage cutouts, and the low ceilings sport swirls of pretty pale, green leaves. After taking it all in, curl into one of the teal-blue velvet banquettes and survey the menu of classic Italian dishes.

Bar Daguiri
This bar-cafe with a bohemian vibe is right on the beach, an enviable location for many a restaurateur. It serves up light meals such as salads, dips, and sandwiches, as well as coffee and drinks, and outside on the terrace there is always a street musician doing his or her thing. A plus is the free Internet access.

El Caballito Blanco
The fluorescent-lit dining area does not offer much atmosphere, but the food is good, varied, and relatively inexpensive (unless you order lobster or other costly shellfish).
