The game has 20 playable X-Men and 10 more characters unlocked after the game was finished. The combo system is dynamic and the gameplay is much faster than the original, with running, defense, dodging and several special moves. Although the main basis of the game is X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, it is possible to recognize moves from different games adapted here, such as X-Men 2 Clone Wars, Wolverine Adamantium Rage, the VS series of fighting games for Arcade and even X-Men Reign of Apocalypse for Game Boy Advance.
